This is the story of a day I spent in Brussels with two of my friends who decided to visit me. It was one of those days that felt like a perfect blend of adventure, laughter, and a bit of Belgian charm. The day started with me waiting eagerly at the Brussels Midi Station. I was thrilled to see my friends, arriving on the train from Charleroi, where their plane landed. As soon as they stepped off the train, we exchanged excited hugs and quickly fell into easy conversation. It’s been a while since I have seen them, and it was nice to exchange some thoughts and stories.
Our first mission: beer. You can’t visit Belgium without indulging in some of its world-famous brews, right? We headed straight to a small pub next to the station, a place that intrigued us with its impressive selection of beers from all over the world. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, filled with chatter and laughter from both locals and tourists. We each picked a different beer and chatted for more than an hour about everything we missed from each others’ lives.
As the afternoon wore on, we decided to take a leisurely stroll through the heart of Brussels. We wandered through the Grand Place, marveling at the stunning architecture and vibrant flowers adorning the square. We visited the “Jardin du Mont des Arts“, a beautiful park close to many important museums, right in the centre of Brussels. We explored the streets, and let me tell you, walking around Brussels with no real plans of what you want to visit might be an even more interesting experience than having a full day of activities planned.
As evening approached, we realized it was time to head to the train station for the next part of our adventure. We grabbed some quick bites from a street vendor, and made our way to the Brussels Central station, where we boarded the night train to Leuven, tired but happy. The train ride was the perfect end to our day. Leuven awaited us with its own promises of more memories to be made, but in that moment, we were content, savoring the magic of a memorable afternoon spent together in Brussels.
