Unfortunately for me, the apartment (or kot, as they call it here) I decided to rent on Kotwijs for the semester was only available from five days later than when I had arrived. This meant that I had to rent a temporary room for the first week of my stay, and go through the tiresome process of moving just after five days. This forst five days were full of getting-to-know programmes and I had a billion different smaller tasks to attend to, so I didn’t exactly have much time to settle in before moving was iminent. I had to pack all my things up once again, and get to the streets of Leuven.
The situation was made even worse by the fact that I had to move out from my former apartment by 11 a.m., but I could only claim my keys to the new one at 6 p.m., so I had to find somewhere to go with all my stuff for basically a whole day. My initial plan was to find a nice park where I can get some work done in the meantime. However, crossing my plans completely, something quite expectable, but still annoying happened: it started raining.
I quickly headed to Pangea, a small cafe/community hall maintained for students, mostly by students. It is tied to KU Leuven, and they organize all kinds of social activities, but what I was most interested in at this time was their warm coffee and a roof over my head. I was able to spend a good couple of hours there, and I also got to know some really nice people. I was eternally grateful for the shelter and the nice atmosphere, and I would recommend the experience for everyone seeking some light socializing, or even just some coffee.
As the rain quieted down around 4 p.m., I hit the road again, and headed towards my new apartment hoping they might be able to hand me my keys a bit earlier, as I was already quite tired at this point. Luckily the ownrs of the kot were really nice and understanding, and after a long day I was able to move in to my new place, from where I would embark on my future adventures.
